The Hinkler electorate covers around 7,000 sq km from the Burnett River at Burnett Heads in the north, to Biggenden Shire in the west and to Woocoo and Hervey Bay City shires in the south. The major population centres are Bundaberg and Hervey Bay, while other towns including Bargara, Biggenden, Woodgate, Howard, Torbanlea and Childers complete the community of interest.
The electorate of Hinkler is named after Bert Hinkler, a native of Bundaberg who flew to fame in 1928 by making the then longest solo flight ever from England to Australia in record time, 14 ½ days.
Important local industries include sugar growing and milling, horticulture, commercial fishing, small business and tourism.
In short, it is a region filled with opportunity and a wonderful place to raise a family.
