Member for Hinkler Paul Neville is delighted that public pressure seems to have brought the Isis River Bridge project forward in the Main Roads works schedule, and has now turned his attention to shoring up the Commonwealth’s contribution.

“The upgrade of the Isis River Bridge was promised back by Labor in 2007, and up until now its works schedule was stretched out to possibly 2014. The public outcry over the delay helped speed up the process and I’m happy to have played a role in getting the project prioritised,” he said.

“My job now is to ensure these promises are followed through.

“Main Roads has said the project’s timeline depends on Commonwealth funding, and I’ve pursued this with the Minister immediately. I’ve written to him on the matter and will continue to talk to him about it.

“I expect to see some action on the bridge before the upcoming election, because these things have a way of disappearing off the radar after an election.

“Promising to do things and then putting them off for two or three elections, much like Mr Rudd’s hospital takeover plan, simply insults the intelligence of the public.

“I must also congratulate local media for keeping the bridge front and centre of public awareness.”
